The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is pleased to invite you to attend this year’s Global Conference on Environmental Taxation (GCET27), which will take place in Berlin, Germany, from 14 to 16 September 2026.

Hosted by PIK’s Research Department 5 (RD5), Climate Economics and Policy/MCC Berlin, GCET27 will bring together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss this year’s central theme: “Fiscal Instruments for International Climate Action.” The conference will provide a forum for exploring innovative policy approaches to addressing global climate challenges, with particular attention to effectiveness, feasibility, and fairness.

GCET27 is chaired by Prof. Dr. Jan C. Steckel and Prof. Dr. Matthias Kalkuhl, both working group leaders at RD5. RD5 contributes solution-oriented research on climate policy portfolios, including carbon pricing, subsidy reform, and climate finance, and strengthens the science-policy interface through policy advice and public engagement.

Please carefully choose your preferred registration option. As this decision is linked to a payment, we wish to avoid subsequent changes, as they cause a major administrative burden.

A cancellation of participation free of charge is possible until 3rd August 2026. The paid fee will be refunded until then. After this date, fees already paid will not be refunded.

Here you can register to take part in the social events. The social events – a group dinner on the evening of 14 September (with or without alcoholic drinks, as you prefer) and a 2.5-hour boat trip on the evening of 15 September – are optional and subject to a fee.

PARTICIPATION USING THE TELECONFERENCING SYSTEM ZOOM

The conference will be executed based on the teleconferencing system Zoom provided by Zoom Video Communications, Inc. ("Zoom"), 55 Almaden Boulevard, 6th Floor, San Jose, CA 95113. We will not record speakers and participant discussions.  If you participate in discussions, you and your contributions to the discussion by audio, video and/or chat will be a part of the conference session and will be streamed using the Zoom infrastructure and might be transferred to the USA or other Zoom computing centers in the world. At the same time, to ensure compliance with EU data protection law, we kindly ask you to not film, take photos, record or further publish any material of the conference and the following discussion. Also please do not forward the Zoom link to third parties. Your participation in these Zoom sessions is not required by law or contract. If you do not provide us with your personal data for the purpose of these meetings, you cannot participate in the conference.  If your personal data are processed, then you are a data subject within the meaning of the EU-GDPR and you shall have rights vis-à-vis the Controller.

CONSENT TO PHOTOGRAPHS AND THEIR USE

During the event, the organizer will take photographs for the purpose of conference documentation. These may be published on the GCET or PIK website social media channels and used in the conference documentation, reports and sent to the participants. No rights or fees can be derived from the consent to use the photos.
