Welcome!

This two-day international conference takes place from 11 December to 12 December 2025 at the Wissenschaftsschloss in Darmstadt. The conference offers a unique forum for exploring the latest interdisciplinary research on ancient Western Greece, from the Geometric Period to the Roman Imperial era. Bringing together established scholars and early career researchers in archaeology, ancient history, epigraphy, and geography, it highlights recent advances in the study of Akarnania, Aitolia, Epirus, and the northwestern Peloponnese regions central to ancient mobility, trade, and religion yet long underrepresented in research. Featuring both lectures and innovative discussion formats, the event also honours Franziska Lang, whose pioneering work has set enduring benchmarks for the study of these landscapes and whose upcomingretirement provides the occasion to reflect on, and advance, the perspectives she has shaped.
