The term diversity gets thrown around a lot, especially in academic environments. It’s a concept that’s not always easy to grasp. It influences how we solve problems, make decisions, collaborate, and shape our working and learning environments every day – whether we notice it or not. Invisible norms, unconscious bias, and power structures shape our interactions and influence who participates, who feels they belong, and whose perspectives are heard. Making diversity and anti-discrimination common goals is a deeply democratic process.

This workshop invites participants to explore these complex dynamics through contextual input, critical reflection, and practical examples, while creating space to discuss questions, experiences, and challenges from their own university contexts. It is aimed at both those who experience(d) discrimination and need empowerment and those who want to learn more to take on responsibility. Together, we will deepen our understanding of diversity and discrimination and translate reflection into meaningful action that strengthens participation, belonging, and equity across teaching, research, administration, and academic collaboration.
