Info

From virtual experiences and augmented reality harkening the end of the 'passive spectator', to a new demand for representation and diversity on screen and off screen, science communication is currently experiencing a boom in creative formats. There has rarely been so much potential for innovation! At the same time, the industry is battling a new wave of skepticism, especially during the pandemic. Communicating scientific content on a broader basis is increasingly becoming fine art.

At The Art of Science Communication hosted at the Leopoldina - German National Academy of Sciences, we will be inspired by pioneers and their groundbreaking work. During presentations and keynotes, we will discuss new narrative formats, the opportunities and challenges of immersive media, and all the exciting things communicators and journalists can learn from immersive pioneers including revolutionary approaches towards interactive experiences, and much more.

The conference will also provide a nurturing ground for interdisciplinary collaboration – at the SILBERSALZ Science & Media Pitch, scientists from various disciplines will present their latest research as they seek new ways to communicate science to the public. Filmmakers and producers will be pitching science concepts in development or early production looking for additional funding and collaboration partners worldwide. Selected projects receive valuable feedback from film producers, authors, broadcasters, science journalists, science institutions, and international foundations. With an emphasis on dialogue and actionable advice, we aim to facilitate new collaborations between scientists and media professionals, and nurture powerful science documentaries and interactive experiences.
