03.09. - 05.09.2024 | CRC 1487 Symposium | Darmstadt
The CRC 1487 cordially invites you to our Symposium 2024 "Understanding Iron & Friends" in Darmstadt. The symposium will take place from September 3 to 5 in the Wilhelm-Köhler-Saal in Darmstadt.
Scope
Iron is an ideal element to substitute rare, toxic or critical elements for sustainable future materials and processes. However, iron and friends, i.e., similarly promising 3d metals, have not yet reached their potential in various technological applications. This symposium will focus on recent progress in the understanding and application of iron and friends in oxidic, molecular, and metallic environments. Bringing together chemists, physicists and material scientists working in experiment and theory will facilitate a cross-disciplinary exchange among researchers following different strategies to reach the same long-term goals. The symposium covers recent developments in theoretical approaches and analytical tools to study fundamental properties of iron and friends, including in situ and operando methods to elucidate structure-activity relationships at the molecular level. Of interest are various fields of application, including thermally and electrochemically driven reactions such as the selective oxidation of alcohols and the electrochemical reduction of oxygen, or the use of iron in magnetic applications.
