The European Conference on Asylum which has been held for over 20 years now in different places by church based organisations in Europe will take place this year in Poland (Warsaw), provided the pandemic situation will allow us.

Addressees of the conference are multipliers in the field of assisting refugees and asylum seekers, from counselling and social work to advocacy work on different levels in  church based and other organisations from European countries. The event is organised by the Churches' Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) with support of the Polish Ecumenical Council, the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession and Diakonie Deutschland. The Conference language will be English/Polish.

Our aim is to have a look into the situation of refugee reception in Poland and other EU countries after the attack of Russia into Ukraine in Februar 2022. But also see the changes in political sphere and civil society and to reflect our Common European Asylum System (CEAS) as a whole. We would like to offer excursions to different border regions.

„FRINGE“ EVENTS BY CCME

CCME will organise two events on the fringe of the European Asylum Conference:

  • There will be an event on community sponsorship prior to the European asylum conference, looking at the progress of different official community sponsorship initiatives but also how many communities became de facto sponsors e.g. in reception of refugees from Afghanistan or Ukraine
  • An event after the European asylum conference (in partnership with Lund University and possibly others)  will look at a crosscountry comparison how churches responded practically and pastorally to the refugees arriving from Ukraine

Invitations for both events will be sent separately and registration will be separately. Those interested to attend one or two of the fringe events might however wish to wait with booking their travel arrangements until further details are known.

Feel free to register and a warm welcome to Poland in October!
