In Neuseeland leben Tiere, die es nirgendwo sonst gibt. Doch seit der Mensch die Inseln besiedelt hat, sind sie in Gefahr. Einige, wie der Riesenvogel Moa, sind bereits ausgestorben. Andere, wie der Kiwi, kämpfen ums Überleben. Schuld daran sind vom Menschen eingeschleppte Räuber: Marder, Katzen oder Ratten machen Jagd auf die neuseeländische Fauna.
Neuseeland hat einen radikalen Plan: Das Land will raubtierfrei werden und dafür sämtliche eingeschleppte Räuber ausrotten. Ist das wirklich eine gute Idee? Wildtierärztin Hannah Emde ist in der atemberaubenden Natur Neuseelands unterwegs, um diese Frage zu beantworten. Doch dafür genügt es nicht, nur die Tierwelt zu erkunden. Alles hängt miteinander zusammen.

New Zealand is home to animals found nowhere else on Earth. But since humans settled the islands, many species have been pushed to the brink. Some, like the giant moa, are already extinct; others, like the kiwi, are fighting for survival. The culprits: predators introduced by humans – stoats, cats, and rats that prey on the native fauna.
New Zealand has a radical plan: to become predator-free by eradicating all invasive species. But is it really a good idea? Wildlife veterinarian Hannah Emde ventures into New Zealand’s breathtaking landscapes to explore this question. And to find answers, she must look beyond the animals – because in nature, everything is connected.
