Future of Science Communication Conference 2.0
This spring, Wissenschaft im Dialog and ALLEA l All European Academies are inviting science communicators to discuss current challenges of science communication as well as the future of the field, building on the interim results of the Future of Science Communication Conference 2021. The one-day conference will take place in Brussels on 26 April 2022.
the topic
The focus will be on impact, dealing with fake news, disinformation, and conspiracy myths, communicating global challenges as well as the institutional structures of science communication in Europe. The current state of research and practical experience as well as the political perspective will be presented and discussed in an interdisciplinary manner.
formats
The event is going to take place in Brussels on 26 April 2022. As the FSCC 2.0 is planned as an on-site event, we will monitor the dynamic pandemic situation closely and update all participants regularly on the current regulations of the event.
The event is threefolded:
Impulses: Introductory keynotes will set impulses for the conference. The impulse talks will present the current challenges of SciComm in Europe from a scientific perspective, the learnings from the pandemic from a practitioner's perspective, and the role of science advice during the pandemic and its future opportunities.
Workshops: Parallel workshops will provide a space to identify and debate the most pressing questions from researchers and practitioners within the science communication community. The topics 1) consequences of fake news and disinformation, 2) evidence-based SciComm, 3) how to communicate global challenges, and 4) which Networks and institutional structures are needed for a future European SciComm will be discussed.
Panel Discussion: In an evening panel discussion How to institutionalize SciComm in Europe?, representatives of European science communication institutions will discuss with stakeholders, researchers, and political actors how science communication in Europe can be positioned more strategically. Ideas and results from the preceding workshops will form the basis of the discussion together with the results from the FSCC. The panel discussion will be broadcasted live.
