The theme of this session is “Extended Reality in Engineering: From Virtual Twins to Collaborative Spatial Computing”, presented by Anjela Mayer, Research Associate at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Research Fellow at the Technical University of Sofia.
This session explores how immersive XR technologies can support collaborative engineering, knowledge transfer, and spatially contextualized assistance in increasingly digital and automated environments. Through projects and insights from research in mechanical engineering and higher education, participants will discover how Extended Reality can enhance interaction with digital twins, improve interdisciplinary collaboration, and keep humans at the center of complex cyber-physical systems.

About our speaker
Dr.-Ing. Anjela Mayer is a Research Associate at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Research Fellow at the Technical University of Sofia working in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Extended Reality (XR), and collaborative engineering systems. Her research focuses on immersive and context-aware technologies for collaboration, knowledge transfer, and assistance in engineering and educational environments. She also serves as Secretary of the IEEE Education Society Germany Chapter and is actively involved in international XR and engineering education collaborations.
