Workshop Description

Would you like to know more about Open Innovation, because you already come across this topic in your research communities?

The workshop will introduce Open Innovation as a collaborative approach to research and development that involves integrating external ideas, expertise, and resources into a research or innovation process. Open Innovation encourages researchers to actively seek external collaborations and tap into a broader network of stakeholders, including other researchers, industry experts, customers and multiple publics outside academia.

The workshop provides a basic understanding of Open Innovation and will introduce what it could mean to integrate open innovation practices into own research processes. You will discuss why it might become interesting for your as a researcher to engage in open innovation processes, which potentials for open innovation own research projects might have and what the benefits and challenges of practicing open innovation will be.

Topics covered in the workshop include:

  • basic understanding of Open Innovation
  • approaches and possibilities for Open Innovation
  • reflecting roles and responsibilities of researchers in Open Innovation processes
  • discovering the innovation potential of your own research
  • defining benefits and future perspectives of Open Innovation
  • discussing challenges and risks associated with implementing Open Innovation

Dr. Annette Klinkert and Dr. Verana Molitor are experts in science communication and public engagement. They are regularly invited as lecturers and workshop-leaders at national and international Science Communication events. Dr. Annette Klinkert is the director of the European Science Engagement Association (EUSEA). She initiated and coordinated a large number of innovative international science communication formats, events and projects.
