The Institute of Tropical Medicine, Travel Medicine and Human Parasitology at the University Hospital of Tübingen, the Institute of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene at the Technical University of Munich, the Institute of Parasitology at the Justus-Liebig University of Gießen and the Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné in Gabon have joined forces to organize a conference to commemorate the 200th anniversary since the birth of Theodor Bilharz, who discovered Schistosoma haematobium, the causative agent of the schistosomiasis. The purpose of this conference is to bring together the schistosomiasis research community from Germany and around the world, to discuss progress and challenges in schistosomiasis research.

We cordialy invite you to join the programme and present your research to an international audience and receive feedback from experts in the field of schistosomiasis. The initial programme for the event is available here.

Abstract submission guidelines

Shape the program by submitting abstracts on your research results.

Abstracts for poster or oral presentations must be submitted in English, with a limit of maximum 2,000 characters (including spaces, not including abstract title and names of the authors). Following categories are available:

  • The Parasite and its Hosts
  • Clinical Disease, Co-Infections and Morbidity Management
  • Drugs and Diagnostics
  • Immunology, Metabolomics and Microbiome
  • Multidisciplinary Perspectives including Implementation Science
  • Epidemiology and Prevention
  • Vaccines and other Future Perspectives

Extended deadline for abstract submission: 30 June 2025

The abstracts will be reviewed and authors will be notified. Accepted abstracts will be integrated into the program either as oral or poster presentations in English. Duration of oral presentations (10 or 25 minutes) will be announced with the acceptance email. Please check your spam box as well.

The presenting author must be a registered participant. Please note that the presenting author is not automatically registered by submitting an abstract.
