Background and Context
Organizations across the Great Lakes Region, including countries such as Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda, are playing a critical role in advancing peacebuilding, social cohesion, and sustainable development. However, many youth-led and community-based organizations continue to face persistent challenges related to limited access to sustainable funding, capacity gaps in organizational management, and rapidly evolving digital environments.
At the same time, the emergence of innovative digital tools, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), presents new opportunities to strengthen fundraising strategies, improve internal systems, and increase overall effectiveness. Despite this potential, access to and understanding of these tools remain uneven, and many organizations rely heavily on traditional approaches or isolated experimentation.
Within the framework of the Regional Youth for Peace Network – Great Lakes (RJP-GL), there is a growing need to foster peer learning spaces where organizations can exchange experiences, explore practical tools, and collectively identify solutions adapted to their local realities.
Purpose of the session
This peer learning session aims to provide a collaborative platform for member organizations to explore innovative tools, including AI-powered solutions, and share practical experiences to enhance fundraising efforts and organizational management.
Objectives
The session seeks to:
- Strengthen participants’ knowledge of emerging tools, including AI and other digital solutions, for effective fundraising and management.
- Facilitate peer exchange of experiences, challenges, and best practices among organizations.
- Promote practical application by enabling participants to identify tools and approaches that can improve their effectiveness and sustainability.
Expected outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Have increased awareness of relevant tools and innovations for fundraising and management.
- Gain practical insights from peer organizations’ experiences.
- Identify concrete tools or strategies to apply within their organizations.
- Strengthen networking and collaboration among RJP-GL members.
Methodology
The session will adopt a participatory and interactive approach, combining:
- Short presentations on selected tools (including AI tools for fundraising)
- Peer sharing and experience exchange
- Practical exploration of tools where applicable.
Target participants
The session will bring together member organizations of RJP-GL, particularly youth-led and community-based organizations engaged in peacebuilding, development, and social impact initiatives across the Great Lakes Region.
Expected contribution to the Great Lakes Region
By strengthening the capacity of youth organizations to access and effectively use innovative tools, this session contributes to more sustainable, resilient, and impactful initiatives in the Great Lakes Region. Improved fundraising and management capacities will enable organizations to respond more effectively to local challenges, support community-driven solutions, and strengthen regional collaboration for peace and development
