Internet-based data collection and AI in research

Referent: Prof. Dr. Ulf-Dietrich Reips, Universität Konstanz

A workshop initiated by the General Psychology Section of the German Psychological Society.

In this workshop I will provide an overview of challenges, guidelines, methods, and tools in Internet-based data collection (e.g. Reips, 2021), including AI. The workshop will provide solutions to many of the methodological challenges in data collection via the Internet, for example issues of design, security, technologies, sampling, recruitment, multiple submissions, measurement scales (e.g. visual analogue scales), response time measurement, dropout, and data quality. Some widely used tools and practices like Amazon Mechanical Turk, the cognitive reflection test, and forced responding are critically reviewed. Best practices for the use of AI in online research will be discussed. Among other methods that have been developed for Internet-based data collection, I will explain the one-item-one-screen (OIOS) design, the multiple site entry technique, the seriousness check, and dropout analysis. We will do hands on exercises with tools from our iScience Server at https://iscience.eu .

Note: The workshop will preferably be held in English, but depending on the composition of participants and needs, communication can also be in German
