Would you like to know how to organize a service learning project with your class?

Learning through service is a unique way of teaching and learning social and democratic values and was first developed as an educational method in the United States. Designing the school play-ground together, rehabilitating a public green, or representing one´s school in the municipal council - small projects realized by classes that benefit the wider community and are grounded in the pupils´ own ideas help to bring about positive change for all and contribute to increased initiative and motivation for investing oneself in society. By combining subject learning with taking responsibility for finding solutions to real problems, service learning also has the potential to make learning more effective.

In this workshop, teachers experienced in service learning will introduce participants to the concept, provide insights into practical examples from their own schools, and guide students through the process of developing their own service projects as teachers. The workshop will be facilicated by the Foundation for Service Learning, which serves as one of the main organizations in Germany to support teachers in this area and cooperates with similar initiatives in other European countries.
