Info

Scientists work with data every day; in the context of research projects, this is called research data. In their day-to-day work, everyone has probably already experienced data or files disappearing, being accidentally overwritten, being available in multiple versions or no longer knowing exactly what each file contains. Avoiding such situations is one of many aspects of research data management (RDM).

As a researcher at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, you are encouraged to follow the FAIR principles when handling your research data. But what exactly are these principles and what does this mean for your work? What is research data management anyway and why should you (also) do it now?

After the workshop, you will know about the advantages of structured research data management and that the topic is not as new as you might have thought. You will learn how to structure, organize and manage your research data in a meaningful way, how to work collaboratively with several project partners and which contacts within the university you can turn to if you get stuck. You will also learn about helpful tools that will make it easier for you to handle research data in your day-to-day work.
