Introduction to Data Analysis with R
Dates: September 14-15, 2026, 9.30 am - 1.00 pm each day

This course is intended for people who start doing scientific computing with R, particularly on HPC clusters, but not limited to those. You do not need to have any prior programming experience. We will provide you with an online environment to write and run your R code. If you have an R development environment set up, you can use that instead, but please make sure it is running ahead of the course.

The following topics will be covered:

  • The Basics
  • Data types
  • Data structures
  • Functions
  • Vectorization
  • Stats
  • Plotting
  • Loading and Saving Data from and to Files
  • Packages
  • IDEs
  • The Tidyverse
  • R on HPC

The Reverse Hybrid Course series https://hpc.dh.nrw/de/events/kurse-und-tutorials/reverse-hybrid-kurse merges in-person and online attendance. Groups at multiple satellite locations across NRW meet in-person and join a centrally broadcast lecture remotely. Tutors at each satellite location (here: ZIM at University of Duisburg Essen) provide guidance during the accompanying hands-on sessions.
