Many scientific institutions have set ambitious climate protection goals by committing to greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to achieve climate neutrality in the near future. These efforts are grounded in the analysis of greenhouse gas emissions from all activities, summarized in the form of carbon footprints.
However, preparing these footprints is complex, involving questions about which activities to include, how to calculate emissions, and how to address limitations in resources and expertise. Additionally, emerging political and legal requirements towards climate protection will shape research practices and likely necessitate measures beyond carbon footprint calculations, such as continuous reporting and developing comprehensive climate strategies.
Hence, this event will discuss the function and impact of carbon footprints, means to prepare them, as well as potential challenges and best practice examples from an international perspective with following experts:
Thierry Bontems - Steering and Strategy Manager at the Laboratoire Pacte (Grenoble),
Claudia Haase - Administrative Coordinator at the German Institute for Human Nutrition (DIfE),
Sebastian Kahlert - Sustainability Manager at the Swiss Federal University of Technology (ETH Zürich).

Climate protection is not only a subject of academic research but should also be an integral part of everyday academic life.
We, the Forum for Sustainable Academia (FNW) aim to support this by pooling expertise, addressing implementation challenges, and providing a platform for exchange.
