Facing the Future: Human Ecology & Higher Education

Be invited to take an active part in this conference

Human ecology, as an overarching perspective, empowers students to become engaged agents of change. As a result, they will be able to discover pathways of transition for societies and transformation towards a more sustainable and resilient future. Focused on discovering new responsible technologies, practices, and methods, they will thus help ensure solidarity and democratic reliability in our communities.

This conference aims to bring together the diversity of teachers, researchers, students and practitioners practicing inter- and transdisciplinary concepts and human ecological approaches. The international program will discuss the new challenges for academic and implementation-oriented work in the future. Participants will explore which concepts and approaches are suitable to support the required transformation and which of them are seen by the learners and designers of Generation Greta as suitable to address the complex and diverse challenges.

Human Ecology thus meets today the challenges of higher education oriented to the urgent issues of the future for present and coming generations.
Examples of addressing these future issues can come, among others, from the following topics:

  • Safe food production, food and meal culture.
  • Climate impact and resilience in cities and regions
  • Sustainable mobility in centers and periphery
  • Biodiversity
  • Demographic change
  • Cultural diversity
  • Resource access and distribution equity

Other examples of topics in human ecology:

  • Human ecology - theory, methodology, concepts, ideas, history and background
  • Human ecology as a bridge between the natural and human sciences and the fine arts
  • Human ecology projects - research and practical implementation
  • Human ecology approaches to transformative research and teaching at universities

Beyond that, we look forward to your further suggestions and to your contributions and active participation not only from human ecology, but from all backgrounds that want to bring new perspectives to higher education.
