Mark Gevisser, südafrikanischer Journalist und Autor des Buches „Die pinke Linie. Weltweite Kämpfe um sexuelle Selbstbestimmung und Geschlechteridentität“.

Unser Gast ist der südafrikanische Autor Mark Gevisser. Im Gespräch mit Klaus Jetz, Hirschfeld-Eddy-Stiftung spricht er von seinen Reisen und Gesprächen mit Lesben, Schwulen, Bisexuellen, Trans* und intergeschlechtlichen Menschen (LSBTI) aus Uganda, Mexiko, Russland, Indien oder Malawi.
Mark Gevisser, 1964 in Johannesburg geboren, gilt als einer der wichtigsten Journalisten Südafrikas. Er publiziert in den Leitmedien der Regenbogennation und in internationalen Zeitungen wie The Guardian oder The New York Times zu politischen und kulturellen Themen. Mit einem Stipendium der Open Society Foundation bereiste er über zwanzig Länder und schrieb Artikel über LSBTI und deren Kämpfe in aller Welt. „The Pink Line“ erschien letztes Jahr in den USA und vergangenen April bei Suhrkamp in deutscher Sprache.

Mark Gevisser is an empathetic and compelling storyteller. His book is situated between journalism and literature. He does not only write about the defeats and setbacks of the activists he portrays, but also about their successes in changing attitudes and reaching people's minds and hearts. This crystal-clear analysis and engaging reportage is a rewarding read, a reference work that will keep activists busy for a long time to come, and one that we hope will receive widespread attention, even beyond the LGBTI community.
