Financial innovations have accelerated. After crypto assets have been born more than 10 years ago, evermore innovative payment solutions, such as Libra or other stablecoin solutions, are proposed. These days, also central banks have made a big step and are now considering to issue own digital currencies, so-called central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). This webinar will discuss and compare the most relevant financial innovations, such as stablecoins, Libra and CBDCs in general with conventional payment methods, such as cash or bank money.
Jonas Gross is a research assistant at the University of Bayreuth and project manager at the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center (FSBC). His main research topics are central bank digital currencies, stablecoins, and cryptocurrencies. Jonas wrote various publications about the Facebook-initiated cryptocurrency project "Libra" and about CBDCs. As one example, Mr. Gross was co-author of the Central Bank Digital Currency Policy-Maker Toolkit published by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Mr. Gross published various articles in German magazines, like the Manager Magazin, Capital, and the Börsenzeitung.
