Workshop Announcement

Adaptivity in nonlinear dynamical systems

20 - 23 September 2022

at the Potsdam-Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)

The topic of this interdisciplinary, hybrid workshop are adaptive nonlinear dynamical systems where we want to highlight adaptivity as a widespread feature of natural and artificial complex systems.

Please register  here  until 4 September 2022.

Abstract:

A widespread feature of natural and artificial complex systems is their adaptivity. Dynamical networks with adaptive couplings appear in various real-world systems such as power grid, social, and neural networks, and they form the backbone of many control strategies and machine learning algorithms. There is lively interest in modelling real-world adaptive systems as well as pushing forward the boundaries of feedback control and artificial learning. In spite of the exhilarating innovation drive in each of the related scientific fields, little attempts have been undertaken, so far, to facilitate the cross-pollination between the different disciplines. This workshop aims to make the first step in breaking the barriers between different scientific communities and bring together researchers from a wide range of backgrounds including physics, biology, engineering, mathematics, social science and musicology. The workshop serves as a platform for young and senior researchers to embark on partnerships for interdisciplinary research. The workshop will be organized as a hybrid event with a mixture of virtual and in-person talks.

Hotels nearby:

We would like to point out that a trade fair (Innotrans) is taking place in Berlin during this period, which will unfortunately also place a heavy demand on hotel capacity in Potsdam. This means that cheap room rates are very difficult to find during this period. We recommend that you use the booking portal for business travellers www.hrs.de to find out about availability and prices in Potsdam.
