Info
The 25th International Conference of the Biometrics Special Interest Group (BIOSIG 2026) is part of the Darmstadt Biometrics Research Week 2026, taking place from 24 to 26 November 2026 at Fraunhofer IGD in Darmstadt.
The Research Week brings together events focusing on current research findings, technologies, and future developments in biometrics, artificial intelligence, security, and digital identities:
- BIOSIG 2026 on 25 and 26 November
- the Fraunhofer IGD AI and Biometrics Forum on 24 November
- the European Biometrics Max Snijder, Research, and Industry Awards on 25 November
BIOSIG 2026
BIOSIG brings together international researchers from academia and industry to present and discuss current research results in biometrics. The conference covers topics ranging from fundamental methods of biometric recognition to questions of security and privacy and applications in everyday life and society.
Research topics include multimodal biometrics and fusion techniques, efficient searching and indexing methods, biometric sample quality, and mobile biometrics. Presentation attack detection and template protection address security and privacy challenges, including attacks such as cross-matching and identity theft as well as manipulated and synthetically generated media.
All submissions undergo a scientific peer-review process. Accepted papers will be submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore, subject to meeting IEEE Xplore’s scope and quality requirements.

Additional events during the Research Week
24 November 2026 | Fraunhofer IGD AI and Biometrics Forum
The Fraunhofer IGD AI and Biometrics Forum is a workshop focusing on current research findings and developments in biometrics and artificial intelligence and their significance for secure and trustworthy digital identities. Topics range from biometric recognition and digital identities to trustworthy AI and security, including challenges posed by manipulated and synthetically generated media.
The workshop provides insights into current research and technologies at Fraunhofer IGD and ATHENE and offers opportunities for exchange between research and practice. It addresses practitioners, technology providers, industry, law enforcement and security organizations, the financial sector, public authorities, and researchers.
Attendance is free of charge.
Afterwards, Fraunhofer IGD invites everyone to the joint BIOSIG 2026 and Fraunhofer IGD AI and Biometrics Forum reception at 18:00.
