Business done differently - Diverse and sustainable economic practices (3 parts)
Date: 31.05.2021 - 14.06.2021, online via Zoom
Time: 16:00 - 17:30
Language: english
Existing economic practices are far more diverse than the currently still dominant growth paradigm suggests. Change is happening on different levels and in different (legal) forms. Initiatives of various scales aim at transforming the system to become more inclusive, sustainable, just. Thereby, they use different transformation strategies and entry points to actively do economics differently.
If you want to learn more about these system-changing examples, join us for three sessions with inspiring insights from transformative practitioners. All three sessions are part of the course “Diverse Forms of Sustainable Economic Practices” ran by the University of Kiel‘s School of Sustainability and take place in cooperation with the yooweedoo Academy for Social Entrepreneurship and Waterkant. Every session has a different focal point and the diversity and plurality of possible economic practices beyond the currently dominant paradigm will be in the limelight.
1) Monday, 31.05.21 (16:00-17:30): Purpose Foundation
Speakers: Lilly Pokraka & Maike Kauffmann
In our first session, our guests Maike & Lilly will guide you through a landscape of purpose-driven enterprises and a hike through the jungle of corporate ownership and legal frameworks - all under the umbrella of ‘steward-ownership’. They will show the relevance of ‘rethinking’ corporate ownership for purpose-driven companies and how important the mindset and respective narratives are to make a difference – and a change. Maike & Lilly work with the Purpose Foundation, an organization striving to help shift our economic paradigm away from profit- and shareholder-value maximization towards stewardship and purpose by supporting entrepreneurs and investors in re-envisioning the nature of corporate ownership.
2) Monday, 07.06.21 (16:00-17:30): CSX Netzwerk
Speaker: Florian Koch
In our second session, Florian will accompany us on a journey through a community supported economy (CSX). We will learn what CSX is all about, its underlying ideas and principles, in what way it is radically different to today's traditional market economy and what CSX can look like in practice by showing different CSX organizations.
Florian is one of the founding members of the CSX Netzwerk e.V. in which practicioners, scientists, consultants and others collecticely seek to find ways of transferring the proven principles of community supported agriculture to other economic sectors. As a doctoral candidate at the University of Jena and as organizational consultant, Florian explores favorable mental and cultural conditions for processes of social-ecological transformation and regards CSX as one promising path that is worth following to see where it leads.
3) Monday, 14.06.21 (16:00-17:30): Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie
Speaker: Nadine Kaufmann
In the last of our three sessions, together with Nadine from Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie – we will look at possible roots for transformation – a transformation from the ground. With a focus on democratic decision-making and increased participation within economic contexts, we will see what can grow out of people’s actions and decisions as active economic actors.
Nadine has worked with Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie e.V. for nine years and has gone through many strategic and decision-making processes in this direct democratic organization. The focus of her work has been to support people in thinking beyond the well known boxes of neoliberal economy and in discovering ecological and solidary ways of organizing economy and society.
By making these sessions of the course publicly available to a broader audience, we want to enhance dialogue and transfer between theory and practice, science and society, abstract thoughts and concrete examples. We full-heartedly invite you to join us on our journey and explore how we can do business – and on a larger scale – economics differently.
