Im Kontext der globalen Energiewende steigt die Nachfrage nach metallischen Rohstoffen derzeit rund um die Welt. Trotzdem finden zu den Fragen, woher die für notwendigen Rohstoffe kommen sollen und auf wessen Kosten sie abgebaut werden, kaum öffentliche Debatten statt. Deshalb wollen wir in dieser Konferenz gerechte Rohstoffpolitik und globale Just Transition ins Zentrum von sozial-ökologischen Umbaudebatten stellen.
Dazu treffen wir uns am 30. und 31. Jänner 2025 im ÖGB Catamaran in Wien. Eröffnet wird die Konferenz bereits am Abend des 29. Jänner mit einer Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema "Greening the European Economy at the Expense of the Global South? Insights from Raw Material Exporting Countries" mit internationalen Gästen aus dem Globalen Süden. Die Podiumsdiskussion findet im Centrum für internationale Entwicklung (C3) statt, die Anmeldung dafür erfolgt separat unter registration@oefse.at

In the context of the global energy transition, the demand for metallic raw materials is currently increasing around the world. Nevertheless, there is hardly any public debate on the questions of where and at whose expense these raw materials are extracted and processed. Thus, at this conference, we want to place fair raw materials policy and global just transition at the center of debates about socio-ecological transformations.
To this end, we will meet on January 30 and 31, 2025 at the ÖGB Catamaran, Johann-Böhm-Platz 1, Vienna. The conference will open on the evening of January 29 with a panel discussion on “Greening the European Economy at the Expense of the Global South? Insights from Raw Material Exporting Countries” with international guests from the Global South. The panel discussion will take place at the Centrum for international development (C3), please register separately at registration@oefse.at
Apart from common inputs and discussions, the main conference is divided into four thematic strands. German-English translation will be available for all common activities as well as for Strand 3 and 4. Strand 1 and 2 will be held in German only.
