​​​​EUPHA-HSRM Spring School - Translational Health Services Research Methods for Public Health Professionals

June 17 to 21, 2024, Granada, Spain

​​​​​​​The EUPHA-HSRM Spring School is a five day in-person meeting for public health professionals and practitioners who would like to deepen their skills in various research methods. 

The 2024 fist edition of our EUPHA-HSRM Spring School will be free of charge for all accepted participants. We will provide lectures, materials, catering and social events  thanks to the generous support of the European Public Health Assocation (EUPHA), the Junta de Andalucia and Granada University who are hosting us in their wonderful location and facilities and the financial support from the European Comission granted to the EUPHA for this purpouse.

The aim of the EUPHA-HSRM Spring School is:

  • to present and share health services research (HSR) methods most frequently used in the various disciplines relevant for public health; 
  • to broaden and deepen the knowledge on methods and methodologies; 
  • to explore answers to complex questions on how to improve public health; 
  • understand how to apply research methods to solve real public health problems from the participants. 

Participants will have to cover only their own travel and accommodation and benefit from a interdisciplinary and interprofessional training by established international senior specialists, senior reseachers and lecturers from different research methodologies and disciplines active in the field of public health. Participants will benefit from the professional networking during five days, and be guided and supported in solving their own practice questions and problems and receive a certificate of completion by our EUPHA-HSRM faculty,

International and Interdisciplinary Faculty of the EUPHA-HSRM Spring School 2024l:  

  • PD. Dr. med. Lorena Dini, MD, MScIH, PhD (EUPHA-HSR, Germany), is a medical doctor licensed in Spain, with the Venia Legendi for the field Health Policy and Systems Research in Primary Care from the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. She is a senior researcher and lecturer, founder and head of the Working Group Health Policy and Systems Research and Innovation (WG HPSRI) at the Institute of General Practice and Family Medicine of the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. She is the Vice-President Section Health Services Research, European Association for Public Health (EUPHA – HSR), Advisory Board Member and Scientific Board of PRIMORE of the European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC), Chair of the Working Group International Health Services Research of the German Network for Healthcare Research (DNVF IHSR), Fellow Sciana Health Leaders Network. 
  • Dr. Piedad Martin Olmedo, MSc, PhD (EUPHA-HiA, Spain), is a senior scientist working at the Andalusian School for Public Health (Granada, Spain). She developed her career in the field of environmental health in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in Spain (e.g. National Research Council), and abroad (e.g. DG-SANTE/European Commission, WHO-Bonn Office or JRC Center-European Commission (EC) in Ispra). She is member of the scientific advisory group of the Spanish Ministry of Health for “Health Impact Assessment (HIA)” contributing actively in preparing the Spanish National Act on Public Health (“Ley 33/2011”). She also provides important technical and training support to the network of public health professionals involved in conducting HIA at regional level. She is the president of the Section Health Impact Assessment of the European Public Health Association.
  • Dr. Chiara de Waure, MD, MSc, PhD (EUPHA-HTA, Italy) is a Medical Doctor and a Specialist in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine with a Master of Science in Health Science, specialization “Epidemiology”, (Erasmus University, Rotterdam), and a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Milano-Bicocca University). She is Associate Professor in Public Health at the University of Perugia and formerly Assistant Professor in Public Health at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Rome. Her current research is mainly in the field of Epidemiology, Vaccine-Preventable Diseases, Vaccination policies and strategies, Health Technology Assessment and Public Health. She holds teaching positions in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health and Health Technology Assessment in several undergraduate and postgraduate courses. She is currently the president of the Section on Health Technology Assessment of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA-HTA) and she is also member of the Italian National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG).
  • Dr. Shehzad Ali, MBBS, PhD (EUPHA-Eco, Canada), holds a Canada Research Chair in Public Health Economics in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Western University, Canada. He is a health economist, statistician and public health specialist. His research focuses on health equity, economic evaluation and health services research, specifically focusing on monitoring equity performance of health services and incorporating equity into resource allocation decisions. He is also interested in applied cost-effectiveness analyses and equity-efficiency trade-offs in resource allocation decisions. Dr. Ali has conducted several modelling studies, epidemiological analysis and randomized controlled trials. 
  • Dr H.B.M. Henk Hilderink (EUPHA-Foresight, Netherlands), is top expert Population Health Foresight at the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, Welfare and Sport (RIVM). He studied Mathematics (Radboud University Nijmegen) and obtained his PhD in Demography (University of Groningen). Based at RIVM, he was project leader of the Public Health Foresight Study (VTV) 2018.. He is a member of the "Umweltmedizin and Environmental Public Health" Commission of the German Federal Ministry of Health, member of the Burden 2020 scientific advisory committee of the Robert Koch Institute, member of the WHO Steering Group for the European Health Information Initiative (EHII) and hold the vice-chair of the WHO European Burden of Disease Network (EBoDN).
  • Dr. Marleen Bekker, to be confirmed (EUPHA-PP, Netherlands) is an associate professor and research coordinator of the Health and Society group of the Center for Space, Place and Society in Wageningen University, The Netherlands. She investigates the politics and policies of public health ranging from intersectoral and multilevel health governance and comparative health systems research to transformative collaborative platforms for a whole of society approach to health. Marleen is a former chair of the Public Health Policy and Politics (PHPP) section of EUPHA, member of the EPH conference board, and has various consultancy roles, among which EUPHA, the Dutch Ministry of Public Health Prevention Knowledge Platform and the ZonMw COVID-19 research program committee.

The EUPHA-HSRM Spring School - Translational Health Services Research Methos is designed for public health practitioners and professionals who are working towards solving questions from practice. We are as well welcoming researchers with work experience in the field of public healt  i.e. those working at national institutes of public health. This Spring School is designed for professionals preferably with at least two years of experience. We will consider though applications of advanced PhD students.
