Goals:
Would you like to gain a better understanding of the German mentality and way of thinking? Is it important for you to be well-prepared for the German business world and to collaborate confidently with colleagues and managers? Would you like to communicate effectively in both your studies and professional life? Then you've come to the right place!
This interactive, practice-oriented workshop gives you the opportunity to reflect on your own culture and experiences in Germany, exchange ideas with other participants, and gain deeper insights into German culture and mentality. The goal is to help you navigate your studies and career in Germany with greater confidence and ease.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- What culture means and how your own cultural background influences your studies and work life
- How German communication culture works, including effective strategies for building professional relationships in Germany
- German leadership styles: understanding hierarchies, direct feedback, and constructive criticism
- What employers expect from their employees
- Key characteristics of German work culture, such as structure, personal responsibility, and time management, along with practical implementation tips
- How to maintain a healthy work-life balance for success and satisfaction in Germany
Speaker
Julia Barden is a psychologist with professional experience in the HR departments of large German companies, with a focus on recruiting, especially conducting interviews and assessment centers. She has been self-employed for five years and supports people both in career orientation and in the entire application process. She has also written several books on the subject of job applications.

About the Future Engineering Career (FEC) program:
The Future Engineering Career (FEC) programme at TU Darmstadt supports international students throughout their studies and on their way to starting their careers. FEC informs, networks and prepares international students as future specialists of tomorrow across disciplines. In particular, international students in STEM courses will find a point of contact at FEC for their career questions, subject-specific offers and the opportunity to use the strong business network of TU Darmstadt. FEC is a project of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
