31st March 2020:

Dear Colleagues,

Given the low chance that we will be able to hold the physical conference safely and that you will be able to register and travel in June, we want to use the current situation to test a new online format for FRISP 2020.
We will send more information via cryolist soon. Please do not register for now, we will make sure to extend deadlines. If you already registered, please contact us ( for refunding.

We hope you are safe and look forward to stay connected with you online!

9 March 2020

The deadline for registration for the 34th Forum for Research into Ice Shelf Processes (FRISP) will be extended until 31 March 2020. Abstract submission will remain open until 15 April.
The reason is that institutions worldwide are evaluating the situation on the recent spreading of the Corona virus. We hope that this will become clearer within the next weeks. If you have not registered yet, we recommend to wait with your registration and hotel booking until the end of March. In case you already booked your accommodation at the hotel, please note that this could - if needed - be cancelled without a fee up to a month before the conference starts.

Best wishes from this year's FRISP organisers
Ricarda, Torsten and Ronja

About FRISP:

FRISP is an annual meeting to share research related to ice shelves, and their interactions with the ice sheet, ocean, and atmosphere. It is an Expert Group of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), and has organised regular meetings in Europe since 1984. FRISP is an appropriate meeting to present work in progress and discuss emerging research ideas, and is well-suited to early career researchers as well as senior scientists.

Agenda & deadlines:

FRISP 2020 will begin on the evening of 21 June 2020 with an icebreaker and dinner, and will conclude with lunch on 24 June 2020. Please aim to arrive at the venue no later than 5pm on Sunday. The Agenda will be published here asap.

Deadlines:      Conference registration: 1 February to 30 March 2020 (go to registration page here)
Hotel reservation: 1 February to 30 March 2020 (contact hotel directly, detailed infomation below)
Abstract submission: 1 February to 15 April 2020 (by separate email, detailed information below)

Conference venue:

This year, FRISP will be held at Hotel Döllnsee-Schorfheide which is 60km north of Berlin in Germany. The hotel is located in the midst of biosphere reserve Schorfheide, right next to lake Döllnsee. On Sunday evening before the conference, we are planning to organize a walking tour along the lake and through the nearby Nature Reserve "Schorfheide". Conference sessions, meals, and accommodation will all be provided at the hotel. A small number of shared rooms will be reserved for students at a reduced price. In the evenings, the on-site bar and well-being area is available for the use of FRISP attendees.

Registration & fees:

Registration for FRISP is open from now until 15 March 2020. The registration fee for FRISP includes conference attendance and meals and has two ticket types:

  1. standard registration (excluding accommodation)                                290,00 EUR
  2. reduced registration for students (excluding accommodation)           240,00 EUR

Students are also eligible to apply for a partial scholarship from SCAR. Scholarship applications are not within the registration form and must be sent separately to us; you must pay the registration fee to secure your place which might be reimbursed later if your application is successful.

Bedroom booking:

Participants make their own reservation at the conference venue. Please contact the Hotel Döllnsee-Schorfheide by email and ask for the conditions for FRISP 2020. The following agreement has been made:
Call-in allotment, available until 15 March 2020
Booking period: 21 - 24 June 2020
Rate per night and single room: 94.00 € including breakfast
reservation by email:

In order to avoid misunderstandings, we recommend to advice the hotel about the correct billing address in advance. You will need to settle your bedroom invoice upon departure. It is helpful for the hotel to receive information about your approximate arrival time and if necessary, any other special requirement.

For students it is possible to share rooms at a reduced price 62,00 EUR per person and night including breakfast. If you want to share a room but do not have a partner yet, please contact us.

Abstract submission:

We welcome scientific contributions to the conference and encourage all attendees to present at FRISP (either a poster or an oral presentation), but it is not required. Abstract submission itself will be done through the separate email and does not have to be completed at the same time as registration.

Your abstract should meet the following requirements: in English language, 250 words maximum, abstracts may not include tables and graphs. The abstract submission deadline is 15 April 2020.

You will be informed about the program until 15 May 2020 by email from the organising team.

We will provide one shuttle bus from Berlin Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) to the venue at appr. 4pm on 21 June 2020, which will be free of charge for you.

If you are coming to Berlin by air, you will arrive at Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL) or Berlin Schönefeld Airport (SXF).

From TXL, there is direct public transport via bus (line TXL in direction "S+U Hauptbahnhof") to Berlin Central Train station which takes about 20 minutes.

From SXF, there are train connections (either RE7 in direction "Dessau" or S9 in direction "Spandau") to Berlin Central Train station which takes about 30 minutes.

Participants, who will not take the provided shuttle bus, use the public transportation to get to Groß Schönebeck and use a taxi from there (on self-payment basis). We suggest the following local taxi-service: Link
