Drivers of climate risks in Europe:
harmonizing research on impact attribution of past events

Friday, 22 September 2023

at the

Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)

Telegrafenberg A56, Potsdam, Germany

Dear natural hazards community,

We kindly invite you to register for our workshop on impact attribution of natural disasters in Europe at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research on 22 September 2023. This one-day, on-site only event will bring together researchers working on different natural hazards (floods, droughts, heat/cold waves, wildfires and windstorms), who will develop ideas on how to harmonize their impact attributions studies by pooling together their methods and data. The workshop will combine short presentations with moderated discussion and brainstorming focused on identifying common approaches, shareable datasets and best practices in the respective fields of research.

The workshop is organized by the DisasterDrivers network of researchers working on pan-European, multi-hazard impact attribution, who will showcase their state-of-the-art approaches. The workshop’s speakers will represent leading European research institutions:

  • European Commission Joint Research Centre
  • Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
  • UFZ Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research
  • GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences
  • University of Szczecin
  • Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
  • International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis
  • Climate Service Center Germany, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon
  • Freie Universität Berlin
  • Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre
