IAWE26

The 26th conference of the International Association for World Englishes (IAWE26) will take place in-person only at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany, from July 25 to July 27 2025. The theme of IAWE26 is ‘World Englishes through Space and Time’.

All authors of a paper to be presented at IAWE26 – even those authors not attending IAWE26 in person – are required to join IAWE in order to gain recognition of their work in the IAWE26 program. In case you do not have an active membership yet, please join IAWE now through

The German Research Foundation, a funding body of IAWE26, needs to know whether you hold a PhD.

IAWE will again present the Braj B. Kachru Student Award for the best paper from a student at the Association’s international conference. Single-authored papers by delegates who do not hold a PhD are eligible for the award. The award is named in honor of Professor Braj B. Kachru, whose influential scholarship helped establish the field of world Englishes, and in recognition of his exceptional commitment to student scholarship throughout his career. This award carries a USD 1,000 prize. A committee composed of IAWE officers will select and announce the winning paper during the IAWE business meeting towards the end of the conference.

The conference fee for IAWE26 covers the following for each delegate:

• for each conference day:
  • lunch
  • two breaks with snacks and coffee, tea and soft drinks
• a welcome reception on the evening of the first day of the conference
• a conference bag with the regular conference gear

On July 26 2025 at 7.30 pm, you are invited to join the optional gala dinner at Schlosskeller Giessen (http://www.schlosskeller-giessen.de/), where fine primarily European and German cuisine along with (flat-rate) alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will entertain your senses. The optional gala dinner costs EUR 80 and will have to be paid on site. Please note that it will not be possible to accommodate guests spontaneously, so please think twice before you make your decision.

After the formal closing of the conference, we offer different optional academic and social events. Please consider the individual activities, their dates, durations and the associated costs, which will have to be paid on site. Note that you can only pick one of the activities on July 27 2025 because they overlap timewise. It will unfortunately not be possible to include guests spontaneously, so please plan accordingly.
