Dear Sir or Madam of Committee ENVI, AGRI or REGI,
We warmly invite you to an online workshop titled “More than just flower strips – Landscape approach for insect protection and new funding options for the future”, in which we are going to present the results and findings of our EU LIFE project “Insect Responsible Sourcing Regions”. We make proposals for future funding programs for insect protection on landscape level and how to improve the uptake of biodiversity-friendly measures in the CAP. We also want to show why active marketing of insect-friendly products still faces several challenges.
Biodiversity-friendly agriculture is a key pillar of a diverse and insect-rich cultural landscape. The way farmers manage their land has a decisive impact on the availability and quality of habitats, the food supply, and the level of chemical exposure. However, many other stakeholders can also contribute to protecting and supporting insect populations. Only through their collective efforts can a landscape’s full potential for insect conservation be realized and gradually developed.
In this workshop, with the experiences made in our LIFE project we will present key success factors for more insect-friendly landscapes and concepts for new funding options to broadly incorporate (cooperative) farmland biodiversity protection in the EU. During the workshop, you will hear 2 talks and will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A discussion.
The event will take place on Thursday, 26th June 2025 at 14:00 – 15:30 and will be conducted via zoom. Please feel free to share this invitation with your colleagues and other interested parties.
We look forward to your participation and a lively discussion.
Best regards,
Christine Kewes and Patrick Trötschler
