Please note: The time of the event is displayed here in Central European Time (CET).

The effects of global challenges such as the corona pandemic, migration and social inequality manifest themselves on the local level and can lead to tensions and conflicts between different groups of civil society and/ or with authorities such as the city administration, police and local politicians. In these often complex conflict constellations, there is an increasing demand for approaches dealing constructively with local conflicts in order to lay the foundations for a peaceful and inclusive coexistence.

The conference aims at bringing together actors and organizations that work in the field of conflict transformation on the local level in their respective country, or who are planning to do so. Besides sharing our long term experience in Local Conflict Counselling, we want to facilitate a mutual exchange on further approaches, concepts and experiences in conflict transformation on local level in different countries.

Facilitation of the conference

About us: The Forum Civil Peace Service (forumZFD) was founded in 1996 by peace and human rights activists in Germany. As a recognised organisation of the Civil Peace Service, we are currently working in eleven countries in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia, and offer specialised trainings in conflict counselling. Our programme Local Conflict Counselling (LCC) has been conducted in twelve municipalities and districts in Germany within the last 15 years, since 2015 also by our partner organisation VFB Salzwedel in further municipalities. In this procedure, a comprehensive systemic conflict analysis of the local situation is carried out by an external and multipartial team of counsellors, based on extensive interviews of the local actors within administration, police, politics and civil society. The visual presentation of the conflict analysis illuminates systemic conflict dynamics behind the visible and tangible tensions and escalations and opens for dialogue. In the proceeding process, the local actors are enabled and supported in developing and implementing an action plan for timely and sustainable measures, tailored to their needs and conditions.
