Background and Motivation

Today, many applications and services rely on space infrastructure and technologies. At the same time, the space industry needs innovative technologies from other sectors to enhance its operations. Therefore, it is essential to think outside the box and transfer solutions from various disciplines into groundbreaking space applications. Start-ups are usually the pioneers that turn innovative research findings, revolutionary concepts and new technologies into real products and practical services.

This session gives founders a stage to introduce their promising ideas for New Space. It will summarise:

  • Fascinating motivations, trends, and hypes in the space industry
  • Why looking beyond earth’s horizon propels technology into space
  • How pioneering start-ups act as a bridge between research and space applications.

This RWTH Innovation Expert Hub session is linked to the BVSR conference and organized in collaboration with the BVSR e.V., SpaceTeam Aachen and the ESA BIC NRW.
