What would stakeholders propose when asked to hold the pen for the next generation of agri-environmental contracts?

What contract elements are fundamental for future agricultural support?

What are options for an enabling and supportive policy framework?

contracts2.0 worked on contractual solutions which provide the right incentives to farmers and land managers to produce more environmental public goods, but also allow them to reconcile the profitability of their farms with environmental objectives.

This is even more important, as many farmers are currently struggling to maintain the economic viability of their farms, facing serious trade-offs between short-term profitability and sustainable production. To reduce these trade-offs, improved contract-based approaches are needed which provide additional public and private incentives to produce a mix of private and public goods that better reflects society’s preferences.

28 project partners throughout the EU worked on innovative contracts for farmers and nature. Focussing on results-based payment schemes, the collective organisation of agri-environment-climate-measures, value chain approaches and hybrid contracts.

The final conference presents and reflects the project and its outcomes.

  • The presentation and discussion of project results,
  • Poster Sessions and interactive workshops to discuss "hot topics",
  • Networking lunch and afternoon reception with international project partners and stakeholders from science, practice and policy.
