Why is the symposium on “tackling rising energy costs" taking place?
In light of rising energy prices and the cost-of-living crisis, research at the intersection of the vulnerability discourse and climate policy has come to the forefront of public and policy debates across Europe. The need for sustainable, long-term changes in the housing and mobility sectors that support the most vulnerable in our society have become ever more apparent. With the introduction of the ETS-2 and the associated Social Climate Fund, these questions will continue to grow in importance in the coming years.
Together we would like to discuss how vulnerable groups and households can be identified, which indicators may be useful in this regard, and explore policies and measures that tackle energy and transport poverty.
Why would you like to participate?
In our European-wide workshop we aim to bring together research and policy experts from Germany and across Europe. Your knowledge on best-practice and country-specific contexts will provide valuable contributions, a setting for mutual learning and exchange, as well as an opportunity to further push the policy agenda on vulnerability.
With experts from Germany, Italy, France, Rumania and beyond and in small, group discussions, you will have the opportunity to explore definitions for vulnerable households, examine the pros and cons of indicators, learn from other countries, and bring your best-practice examples to the table. In a panel discussion we will go beyond the technical debates of indicators and discuss concrete policy options with experts.
