When and Where
On 23 September, after the International Conference in Atlantic Hall, we simply step outside and board the MS Rygerdronningen that is waiting for us by the dock in the city centre (5 minutes walk away).
Ryger is the ancient Norse name for inhabitants from the Ryfylke-district, which Stavanger also is a part of. Dronningen means queen. The queen of the ryger is a completely new and state-of-the-art boat, in operation here since April 2018. Rygerdronningen is built in a way so that she can easily be electrified while at the dock.
Lighthouse-cruise
As we depart from the Concert Hall, we will embark on a culinary Fjord adventure, dining while the view is constantly changing between unique fjord landscapes of islands, rocky shores, steep mountainsides, powerful waterfalls, and beautiful lighthouses.
The first lighthouse we will get to see is Tungenes fyr, then Kvitsøy and Fjøløy fyr if the weather allows. Kvitsøy is the Tall Ships race starting point of the leg to the Netherlands. The last lighthouse to be seen is not a lighthouse per se, but symbolically, it is the lighthouse of the region. Lysefjorden, with its imposing Pulpit Rock, ranks among the world`s most beautiful fjords.
