Workshops in Frankfurt on Thursday afternoon, 11 June 2026
There will be workshops taking place at various venues in Frankfurt this afternoon. Please register for a workshop by 8 June. Participation is free of charge. All workshops start at 1.45 pm at the University Chaplaincies in Frankfurt, Siolistraße 7, 60323 Frankfurt.

Workshop 1 – Campus-Tour:
The tour traces the history of the IG Farben Building from its construction as the headquarters of what was once the largest chemical company in the world to its present-day role as the main building of Goethe University. In addition to the corporate history of IG Farben and its entanglement with the National Socialist policies of persecution and extermination, the focus is primarily on the forced laborers exploited by the company in the Buna-Monowitz concentration camp (Auschwitz III) and their biographies. The Norbert Wollheim Memorial, opened in November 2008 on the grounds in front of the IG Farben Building, was created as a site of remembrance for them, and its concept and purpose are also addressed. The tour takes place mostly outdoors.
Workshop 2 – Adlerwerke:
This guided tour takes participants to the Adlerwerke Memorial Site in Frankfurt, a place of remembrance dedicated to the history of forced labor and resistance during the Nazi era. Once an industrial factory complex, the Adlerwerke became a site where hundreds of people – many of them deported from occupied countries – were forced to work under inhumane conditions. The memorial offers insights into the local dimensions of the Holocaust, the role of industry under National Socialism, and the personal stories of those who were persecuted and resisted. The visit invites reflection on responsibility, remembrance, and how societies deal with historical injustice in the present day.
Workshop 3 – Anne Frank Educational Center:
Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt in 1929. The Anne Frank Educational Center is dedicated to preserving and promoting her legacy. During a workshop, we will have the opportunity to explore the center’s permanent exhibition and learn more about its educational work.
Workshop 4 – Elisabeth Outpatient Clinic (ESA):
This workshop offers an in-depth look at homelessness, addiction and access to healthcare in Frankfurt. Staff members from the Elisabeth Outpatient Clinic (ESA), a Caritas Frankfurt project, will guide participants through the clinic, highlighting the everyday realities faced by people living in extremely precarious conditions. The ESA provides low-threshold medical care, addiction support and social services for people who are homeless or do not have health insurance. Through mobile outreach and a city-centre clinic, they build trust and respect dignity while providing professional health care and mediating clients to the regular healthcare system. This session provides valuable insights into frontline healthcare work and encourages reflection on the role of chaplaincy and spiritual care in engaging with people on the margins of society.
Workshop 5 – City Tour Queer Frankfurt:
Frankfurt is an international, vibrant and diverse city. It is home to many different cultures and communities. On a walking tour of the city, we’ll visit queer venues and discover the history and stories of people from the LGBTQ+ community who live here or have lived here in the past.
Workshop 6 – Meeting with Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg:
We will meet Dr. Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg, Mayor of Frankfurt and Head of the Department for Diversity, Anti-Discrimination, and Social Cohesion. We will have the opportunity to learn about her personal story and motivation, as well as her current responsibilities and work.
