Describing and documenting research data
Finally, you have been granted the long-awaited funding, and you can reuse the research data you collected two years ago for the new research project and continue the project. But you no longer remember what the abbreviations stand for? What do the combinations of numbers describing the columns in the data table mean? What parameters/settings did you use for the measurements?
You can (largely) avoid the situations described above through the structured and (pre-planned) use of metadata and well-designed documentation. In this 2-hour online workshop, you will learn details and useful tips on metadata and documentation .
You will learn
- what metadata actually is and where you can find metadata schemas that are useful for your research field.
- what types of documentation there are.
- why it is worthwhile in the long run to invest time in structured documentation.
Basic knowledge of research data management is required for participation.
