Her Animus is on the Loose
A literary-musical evening with opera singer Barig Nalbantian and Stuttgart Staatsoper pianist Dorothea Schwarz.
By looking into where the characters from Tennessee Williams’ Glass Menagerie might find themselves 25 years later, Barig Nalbantian takes a closer look at where women stand in today’s world using Laura Wingfield and Jim O’Connor to tell her story. Supporting characters are found in overbearing, unfulfilled mothers, and absent, frightened fathers. In projecting her desire to please them and everybody else, Laura almost completely forsakes her own identity until the Future arrives, shaking her to her very soul and demanding that she find her own true voice. Featuring Stuttgart State Opera pianist and vocal coach Dorothea Schwarz with music by Kurt Weill, Stephen Sondheim, Henry Purcell, and Robert Schumann amongst others.
