Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) enables the label-free, spatial visualization of numerous molecules simultaneously in biological samples, providing detailed insights into their molecular composition. It has become a valuable tool in biology, medicine and pharmaceutical research for investigating disease processes, drug  distribution and efficacy, and the spatial organization of complex molecular networks. 


This training course will provide participants with a solid understanding of the principles, applications, and limitations of mass spectrometry imaging (MSI), enabling them to make informed decisions about its use in research and drug development. It will also foster collaboration within the EU-OPENSCREEN network by promoting the application of MSI to improve the understanding of drug candidates and accelerate the drug discovery process. 
 
 Through lectures and hand-on lab training you will: 


  • Understand the basic principles of mass spectrometry imaging
  • Understand the basic experimental workflow 
  • Prepare samples from fresh-frozen tissue
  • Carry out basic data analysis 
  • Understand possible applications and be aware of technical limitations
