How businesses are investing in resilience
Using incentive schemes to improve biodiversity in food systems
Event organised as part of the EU LIFE project ‘Fit for Biodiversity’
What it’s all about
Businesses depend on biodiversity. At the same time, economic activities have a wide range of impacts on biodiversity.
Incentive schemes are a key lever for promoting biodiversity in agricultural supply chains. They offer companies a tool to integrate biodiversity into their procurement strategies, strengthen supplier relationships, improve supply chain resilience and support credible sustainability positioning.
By linking environmental protection measures with economic incentives, incentive schemes offer a practical way to support farmers and suppliers in implementing and maintaining measures that promote ecosystems, soil health and biodiversity, whilst remaining economically viable. Designing such programmes requires a series of carefully considered strategic decisions.
In this event, we will examine key decision-making areas – from financing and payment mechanisms to participation rules, monitoring and communication – which together determine how an incentive programme works in practice. Based on an analysis of incentive schemes at European level, covering different scales, different product groups, and both organic and conventional farming systems.
Target audience
Food and beverage companies, sustainability managers, farmers, researchers and policy-makers working on biodiversity, agricultural supply chains and corporate sustainability.
Format (virtual)
A focused presentation on effective incentive systems for improving biodiversity in food systems, followed by an open Q&A session.
You will receive the link to the event in your confirmation email after registering.
About the Lake Constance Foundation
The Lake Constance Foundation is a private organisation dedicated to environmental protection and nature conservation, based in Radolfzell, Germany. Together with partners from the agricultural sector, the food industry and the nature conservation sector, we develop pragmatic approaches and launch initiatives and projects – for significantly greater climate protection, biodiversity, better adaptation to climate change and fair markets. Our goal is to achieve fully sustainable food systems.
Fit for Biodiversity
The EU LIFE project Fit for Biodiversity (Grant Agreement No. 101148484) aims to significantly improve biodiversity management in the food industry. The project contributes to the objectives of the International Convention on Biological Diversity agreed in November 2022.
