Holzbau für Klimaschutz, Biodiversität und Nachhaltigkeit-
Impulse aus Baden-Württembergs Holzbau-Offensive zum Bau(haus) mit Holz für Europa
am Dienstag, 16. April 2024, 11:30-13:15 Uhr live aus dem Ministerium ein.
Wälder spielen als langlebige Ökosysteme eine vielfältige und bedeutende Rolle als Lebensraum, Sauerstoffproduzent, Wasser- und Kohlenstoffspeicher sowie Quelle des nachwachsenden Rohstoffs Holz. Durch den Klimawandel geht die Temperaturveränderung auf unserem Kontinent deutlich schneller vonstatten, als sich der Wald natürlicherweise anpassen kann. Wir müssen unsere Wälder daher aktiv an den Klimawandel anpassen, um ihre Waldfunktionen langfristig zu erhalten. Klimaresiliente Wälder und ihre Holzprodukte sind unsere wichtigsten Klimastabilisatoren, denn sie sind sofort nutzbare und skalierbare Möglichkeiten, aktiv Kohlenstoff der Atmosphäre zu entziehen und über einen längeren Zeitraum zu speichern.
Unsere Wirtschaft und unsere Lebensräume befinden sich in einem großen Transformationsprozess, hin zu einer anderen, klimaverträglichen und nachhaltigen Lebenskultur. Die nachhaltige Forstwirtschaft ist beispielgebend für regionale, kreislauforientierte und biodiversitätsfreundliche Wirtschaftsmodelle. Einerseits ermöglicht die nachhaltige Nutzung von Holz die Anpassung der Wälder an den Klimawandel und den Erhalt biodiverser Ökosysteme. Andererseits ersetzt Holz fossile Rohstoffe. Dies spielt vor allem im Bausektor eine große Rolle. Holz ist ein langlebiger und recyclingfähiger Baustoff, der sowohl durch seine CO2-Bindung als auch als CO2-Produktspeicher das Klima schützt.
Die Holzbau-Offensive Baden-Württemberg unterstützt die Vision des New European Bauhaus durch die Transformation hin zum klimafreundlichen Bauen und einer wertigen Baukultur. Die Holzbau-Offensive fördert, durch einen vielfältigen Maßnahmenkatalog zur Stärkung des Holzbaus, die rasche und aktive Einspeicherung von nachwachsenden Kohlenstoffen aus der Atmosphäre in Produkten und Gebäuden. Baden-Württemberg entwickelt sich zu einer Modellregion im Sinne der Carbon Removal Strategie der EU und gibt im Rahmen der Veranstaltung Denkanstöße auf dem Weg der Umsetzung einer regionalen Carbon Removal Strategie.

Timber construction for climate protection, biodiversity and sustainability —
Ideas from Baden-Württemberg’s timber construction initiative for wood building & the New European Bauhaus

Forests play a diverse and important role as enduring ecosystems, habitats, oxygen producers, water and carbon storages along with being a main source of the renewable raw material wood. Yet due to climate change, the temperature on our continent is changing too quickly for forests to naturally adapt. We therefore need to actively adapt our forests to climate change in order to maintain their benefits in the long term. Climate-resilient forests and their wood products are our most important climate stabilisers as they offer immediately usable and scalable ways to actively remove carbon from the atmosphere and store it for long periods of time.
Our economy and habitats are undergoing a major transformation process towards a different, climate-friendly and sustainable way of life. Sustainable forestry is an example of a regional, circular and biodiversity-friendly economic model. On the one hand, the sustainable use of wood enables the adaptation of forests to climate change and the preservation of biodiverse ecosystems. On the other hand, wood replaces fossil resources. This is particularly important in the construction sector. Timber is a durable and recyclable building material that protects our climate both by binding and by storing carbon dioxide.
Through the Timber Construction Initiative, Baden-Württemberg supports the vision of the New European Bauhaus through the transformation towards climate-friendly construction and a high quality building culture. The Timber Construction Initiative promotes the rapid and active storage of “renewable carbons” from the atmosphere in products and buildings through a diverse catalogue of measures to strengthen timber construction. Baden-Württemberg is evolving into a model region in line with
the EU’s Carbon Removal Goals. This event wants to provide food for thought for the implementation of a regional Carbon Removal Strategy.
