Aims and Topics

The IAB’s Graduate School (GradAB) and the FAU invites young researchers to its 16th interdisciplinary Ph.D. workshop “Perspectives on (Un-)Employment”. The workshop provides an opportunity for graduate students to present their ongoing work in the field of theoretical and empirical labor market research and receive feedback from leading scholars in the discipline. The workshop will focus on but not be limited to empirical research in the following fields:

  • Labor supply, labor demand and unemployment
  • Evaluation of labor market institutions and policies
  • Education, qualification and job tasks
  • Wage determination and life-cycle earnings
  • Gender, family and labor market discrimination 
  • Inequality, poverty, and intergenerational mobility
  • Migration and international labor markets
  • Regional labor markets and spatial disparities
  • Impact of technological change, digitalization, and climate change on the labor market

We welcome papers that apply quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods.

Since Nuremberg is popular with tourists, we recommend taking care of your accommodation well ahead of time.

For participants interested in an overnight stay in Nuremberg, we have reserved a contingent at the Hotel Advantage Nürnberg (http://www.hotel-advantage.de/). There are 25 single rooms available from 22. - 25. January 2025 at a price of 78,00 € per night. Of course, it is also possible to reserve just one or two nights.

Conference fee and traveling Costs

Participants will not be charged a fee.

Travel Grants

For presenters without funding, please indicate along with your submission whether you would like to apply for a travel grant. We will provide more information about the application with the notification of acceptance.
