How can art and culture in public space contribute to societal resilience?
For this first session, we are very pleased to welcome Trevor Davies, who will share his experiences and reflections on the role of art and culture in shaping public spaces and resilient communities. Trevor Davies is an urban planner, cultural strategist and curator with almost 50 years of experience working at the intersection of art, culture and urban development. He is the founder and artistic director of Københavns Internationale Teater (KIT) and a key figure behind Metropolis, Copenhagen’s platform for performance and art in public space.
Through his work with Metropolis, Trevor has explored how artistic interventions can create new relationships between people, places and the city, and how culture can contribute to urban development and social change. He has also served as Secretary General of Copenhagen European Capital of Culture 1996 and as project manager for Aarhus European Capital of Culture 2017.
Trevor will share examples and thoughts on how art and cultural interventions can transform public spaces, bring people together and help communities respond to change and uncertainty. His input will be followed by an open discussion and Q&A with participants, creating space to exchange experiences, questions and perspectives from different cities and contexts.
Whether you are a city representative, practitioner, artist, cultural or creative professional, or simply interested in culture, public space, resilience and the future of cities, you are very welcome to join us.
About the Future Cities Community
The Future Cities Community brings together people from different networks, projects and cities to exchange experiences and explore questions around how we can shape more liveable, resilient and future-oriented cities. Rather than creating another parallel network, the community connects and builds on existing communities, including the Liveable Cities Network and NEBHUB 2050. The community will meet online every three months, with each session focusing on a different topic related to future cities and offering space for input, discussion, peer learning and exchange across different fields and perspectives.We will also host various events and Fora. About the Future Cities Platform
The Future Cities Platform is an Interreg Baltic Sea Region platform project that brings together knowledge, experiences, tools and networks developed through previous and ongoing projects. It builds on results from initiatives including BSR Cultural Pearls, Liveability, CCI4Change, NEB-STAR and EDITUA, making their experiences and approaches more accessible and useful for cities and practitioners.
The Platform will connect and further develop practical resources such as the Future Cities Playbook, a portfolio of tested cultural and participatory tools, an online learning community and peer-learning activities, as well as a policy brief on culture and creativity as strategic investments for resilience and liveability.
