Cultivating Connections and Networking in Germany
Making friends in Germany is hard, and making professional connections can sometimes be even harder.
In this overview seminar, you will learn how to effectively network in Germany, in your personal and private life. We’ll discuss misconceptions and misunderstandings in making friends and colleagues, what it means to be a ‘professional’ in Germany, and how networking differs when done digitally and in-person. Then, we will deep dive into how to cultivate connections at work, including managing and proactively reacting to mistakes, navigating negative feedback and responding to performance reviews.
By the end of this 90-minute session, you’ll be more informed about navigating relationships in intercultural settings in Germany.

Jessica Schüller is an expert in career development and international student employability, with experience in higher education, research, and policy across Germany, Europe, and the United States. Having worked in career services and later held a senior role at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Jessica Schüller has helped shape initiatives and research focused on international student success and labor market integration.
