Teamwork, Team Management - SLE TRAINING (In Person): August 26-30, 2024

9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. CEST (Central European Summer Time)

SLE, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

It is generally acknowledged that good teamwork is a crucial factor for successful projects within international cooperation, in businesses and in organisations. To address the global dimension of today’s challenges in a multi-polar and interdependent world, professionals and teams must be able to develop solutions collaboratively and often in international, cross-sectoral networks.

Teams usually consist of participants with diverse professional backgrounds, status and behaviour. Results oriented teamwork thus needs to be organised and managed in such a way that team members contribute effectively, reach consensus, coordinate effectively with their hierarchy and other stakeholders, find applicable solutions under given time constraints, and achieve the project objectives, while maintaining a high level of personal satisfaction throughout the process. This training covers essential skills and attitudes for successfully working together and provides tools and instruments for team members, as well as team managers and leaders, that can be transferred to the participants’ daily teamwork processes.

Benefits

You will learn how to organise teamwork in a results-oriented and constructive manner. The trainers provide you with necessary knowledge, methods, tips and feedback for observing and understanding team dynamics and consequently improving teamwork processes. You will experience different team situations in different roles and identify appropriate solutions for improving teamwork. Based on these experiences and a systematic self-reflection, you will complete the course with a heightened sense of self-awareness about your team skills and abilities. So you become better equipped to optimise your contribution as a team member, to guide and motivate teams, and to develop ideas for transforming your specific working context.

Key Topics

  • Understanding the difference between a group and a team
  • Different roles and tasks in a team
  • Mechanisms of decision-making in a team
  • Organising results-based teamwork
  • Conflicts and criticism as necessary and constructive aspects of teamwork
  • Feedback within teams and between teams and the hierarchy
  • Delegation of work
  • Supporting team development

Course Methods

The training is based on the principle of experiential learning. The focus is on practical exercises, supported by short, theoretical inputs. You will assume different tasks and roles in a team and work on real cases, presented by the participants. Based on these experiences, you will, supported by the trainers, evaluate resulting team processes and develop solutions for your working context.

Target Group

The course is designed for professionals working in or with teams. Participants should have some experience of working in or with teams and should be willing to share their practical experience with the other participants.

Optional Follow-Up Training 2025: Leadership

In 2025 SLE Training will offer a Leadership training course that builds on this teamwork training. We recommend this training as a follow-up to the Teamwork course, the content and exercises will be based partly on those of the teamwork training. But it can also be booked independently.
