Getting Started - The path to a successful doctorate for advanced candidates

Target group: Doctoral candidates in the advanced stages (second half) of their doctoral thesis.

Learning objectives:

For most people, doing a PhD is the first major research project that they have to master on their own. There is a multitude of challenges along the way (i.e. getting smart ideas, getting along with supervisors, mastering the basics of scientific work …). A good time- and project-management helps a lot to set one’s focus right and use one’s time and energy in a productive and efficient way. This workshop supplies you with the tools you need to plan and execute your PhD project as effectively and efficiently as possible. You discuss and test basic strategies and techniques of a good project- and time-management. This allows you to organize yourself and your workload in better ways. Based on your existing working habits, you will learn more about which type of worker you are and how you can further improve your working situation. NB: This workshop is particularly indicated for students in the second half of their PhD and specifically places more emphasis on those issues to keep in mind as the end of the project is (finally!) approaching.
